President Lincoln comes to New Milford

MPj02020840000[1] This Sunday, May 3rd at 2 p.m.  the New Milford Historical Society will present “Simply Lincoln”, a wonderful theatrical performance by Howard Wright.

Mr. Wright is a member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters, a rather interesting group of men who portray Mr. Lincoln. The motto on their website is “Would I Might Rouse The Lincoln In You All”.

According to Mr. Wrights website, his purpose is to bring the amazing words written by Mr. Lincoln to all, to give us a chance to better know this great man.  The Presidents own words are used, taken from Roy. P. Basler’s eight volume set, The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln.

Of course President Lincoln will appear in his usual garb, complete with his black frock and stovepipe hat. For more information please call the New Milford Historical Society at 860.354.3069. Admission is $5.00.

Merwinsville Hotel, a night at the Opera

MERWINSVILLE HOTEL, GAYLORDSVILLE, CT

March 21, 2009. 7:30 pm. The Merwinsville Hotel is hosting an evening of opera to benefit the hotel restoration. Zoe Vandermeer will perform her own “Zoe’s Musical Fairy Tale, Upon A Time”. Timothy Alexandre Wallace will narrate and accompany on keyboard. Wine and Cheese to follow the performance. Seating is limited, it is suggested to call for reservations.

The Merwinsville Hotel has some interesting events throughout the year. I would highly recommend you check their calendar of events and make a trip up there. A piece of our local history that is certainly well worth preserving. Located in Gaylordsville, CT, the hotel was a meal and train stop in the late 1800’s for the Housatonic Railroad. Take a moment to see what they are all about; I think you will like it.
